Must-Have Wardrobe Organisation Essentials

Having a tidy can wardrobe can make your life so much easier. Finding things in your wardrobe can be a pain if it is disorganised and the correct storage facilities for certain accessories can help to keep them being maintained in a great condition. Work with the existing closet space you have, whether it be a free-standing wardrobe, a built-in wardrobe or converted built in cupboard. Add a few simple accessories to help with the organisation and care of your clothes, shoes and accessories.

Clothes

Start with the biggest item in your wardrobe – clothes. Hanging clothes as opposed to folding allows them to keep their shape and makes it easier for you to find things. Adding in a second rail to your wardrobe, if you have the space, will prevent the creasing of clothes if too many items are hung together. Using felt hangers as opposed to wooden hangers will give you extra space and prevent creasing on the rail.

With the extra hanging space, you can organise your clothes by separating into a shirts/blouses and trousers/skirts. For longer items you should hang on a full-length rail. If you want to substitute a second rail in your wardrobe but lack the space for a full-length rail by doing so, a free-standing rail can be a great alternative as it gives evening dresses and other long items the space they need.

Belts

For such small accessories, belts can take up a lot of unnecessary space. Adding hooks to the back of your wardrobe store is a good place to hang them and can be found on Amazon or in the homeware organisation sections of stores. If you have the space to add in pull-out drawers to your wardrobe, consider placing drawer dividers in so the belt can be rolled up without them springing back. If any items of clothes have belts attached to them, take it off and hang with the rest of the belts rather than keeping them on the item as their weight can pull the fabric and ruin the shape whilst hanging.

Handbags

Built in cupboards or a hanging cupboard system off the rail are great for storing bags. Stand them upright or lay on their side in accordance with their shape. Stuffing bags with newspaper or tissue paper can help them to keep their shape whilst in storage. Hanging bags on hooks on the back of your wardrobe door is fine for bags you use every day but it can put too much strain on the straps if they are hanging there for a long time.

Some bags will come with dust bags which is great for protection. For bags that don’t already have a dust bag, you can sew them by using muslin cloth or buy ready-made ones from Amazon or homeware stores. Avoid using airtight boxes for storage as natural fibres and leather bags need ventilation.
