Indulge in the simple pleasures of standing in the sea, feeling the breeze on your face, taking in the scenery and settling down for a delicious pub lunch or seafood dish in one of Cornwall’s many idyllic towns.

But how do you decide where to visit in a county such as Cornwall where there is something to discover around every turn? We’ve compiled a list of five cute Cornish towns to discover on your next trip down there and we’re sure you won’t be disappointed.

Penzance

Penzance is the easiest to get to town in Cornwall thanks to its railway links. It is the main commercial centre of the country and contains a cluster of historic pubs and independent shops. It is home to a weekly farmer’s market at St John’s Hall and you can easily reach the Isles of Scilly from here as ferries leave regularly from Penzance’s working harbour. It has more of a working charm than more idyllic Cornish towns but Penzance combines the perfect mix of urban and coastal living.

St Ives

The poster-girl of Cornwall, St Ives is a must for any visit to Cornwall. It involves a sense of the Mediterranean with cafe terraces straight out of Italy and white sandy beaches waiting to be explored. High-profile attractions such as the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth Museum are waiting to be explored in St Ives and thanks to the booming tourism industry in the town you are not short of somewhere to stop to eat and drink. Expect to find cuisines ranging from pastry shops and traditional pub grub to upmarket seafood restaurants bolstered by the town’s history as a busy fishing port.

Padstow

Padstow is positioned in the only sheltered estuary between Hayle and Devon. Booming with tourism thanks to the railways arrival in 1899, Padstow continues to be an affluent holiday destination. For cycling fans the county’s most popular cycle route The Camel Trail links Padstow with Wadebridge. It is not short of places to eat and drink either after a challenging cycle with Rick Stein’s seafood restaurant and Rick Stein’s fish and chip shop located near the harbour.

Bodmin

Steeped in history, Bodmin is the former county town of Cornwall. It is the only Cornish town in the Domesday Book and the oldest part of the town sits around the Bodmin Beacon. There is plenty to see and do with the former prison Bodmin Goal now a museum open to the public as well as lots of nice pubs and cafes to enjoy.

Newquay

Heralded as Cornwall’s premier resort, Newquay has loads of beautiful beaches and is popular with surfers worldwide. It has spectacular coastal scenery and a thriving nightlife scene making it popular with visitors of all ages.
